Lynne Glazer, M.S.W. Biography |
 |
Lynne Glazer earned an MSW from the University of Connecticut and is a
certified mediator with advanced training, a marital and divorce counselor,
researcher, coach and strategist.
Lynne was also previously an elementary school teacher and is a mother of two
successful grown children. Needless to say, she has an in depth
understanding of children. She has also been involved in creating,
implementing and facilitating a successful divorce group for children.
After researching marriage and divorce for over ten years and spending
five years in the adversarial legal system herself getting her own divorce,
she found that the counseling field and legal system were inadequate for
appropriately solving problems and meeting the needs of families. She found
out first hand that the adversarial arena of lawyers and courtrooms only
created additional emotional suffering and financial loss.

Glazer on Divorce...What You Need to Know |
 |
Lawyers make their client’s life more miserable, by pitting you against
your spouse in a battle that is impossible to win. Your legal grounds are
undermined, and you are made to look bad while your spouse is made to look
good. While this battle ensues, years are marked off your life. You are out
priced by your lawyer, and are still without a divorce! Needless to say,
lawyers needlessly prolong the conflict and the agreements are not
personally suited to meet the needs of the family. This is the norm not the
exception.
She also discovered that there is no coherent therapeutic framework or
model to work off of for marriage and especially for the divorce process.
Thus, clinicians are at a disadvantage when working with clients. Many
clinicians are often wedded to one method or theory to help solve marital
problems. One theoretical approach cannot save a marriage. Generally
speaking, she discovered that most marriage counseling does little to
improve or save marriages.
In regard to divorce, she discovered that many clinicians involve
themselves in different stages of the divorce process often with little
awareness of the events. The continuity of the experience is lost in the
clinician’s lack of training and experience in treating this unique crisis.
Also, little attention is given to the divorce decision process. The
decision to divorce is the single most crucial and perhaps the most
stressful aspect of the divorce process. Yet, little attention has been paid
to this process. People cannot do what they don’t know. They can’t make
decisions in a vacuum. Perhaps, many marriages might have been saved if
they had had the right information and many divorces could have been less
agonizing and simplified.
After going through three lawyers and two mediators and learning about
the legal system through trial and error, Lynne felt that if she could
prevent one person from going through what she went through, then she would
have made an important contribution and difference in the quality of
people’s lives. Concerned about the high emotional cost of troubled
marriages and conflicted divorces, she created her own successful marital
and divorce practice in 1996 and is expanding her practice to the inter net.
She enjoys helping people find their own personal direction and ultimately their own
north star. "Once you find your north star, you will never be lost." Lynne Glazer, M.S.W.
